Falls Prevention & Risk Reduction
Specialist Falls Prevention & Risk Reduction
A fall – or even a near miss – can significantly affect someone’s confidence and independence. You may begin avoiding the stairs, going outside less often or relying increasingly on relatives because you are worried about falling again.
Bee Mobile Physiotherapy provides personalised falls prevention physiotherapy in your own home. The service is designed to improve strength, balance, mobility and confidence while identifying the individual factors that may be increasing your risk of falling.
Home visits are available across Worcester Park, Epsom & Ewell, Stoneleigh and Cheam for older adults and anyone experiencing reduced mobility, unsteadiness or recurrent falls.
A Personalised Falls Prevention Programme
Falls rarely have one single cause. Reduced leg strength, poor balance, pain, illness, unfamiliar walking aids and hazards around the home can all contribute.
Your initial home physiotherapy assessment may include:
- Discussing previous falls, near misses and current concerns
- Assessing walking, balance and lower-limb strength
- Reviewing transfers, such as getting out of a chair or bed
- Practising stairs and mobility around the home
- Checking whether a walking aid is being used safely
- Identifying practical hazards within the home
- Developing an individual strength and balance programme
- Advice for relatives or carers where appropriate
Treatment is tailored to the person’s abilities and goals. This might include becoming more confident walking to the bathroom, managing the stairs safely, getting outside again or returning to local activities.
Exercises are reviewed and progressed over time, helping to build strength and balance at an appropriate pace. If the assessment identifies concerns that require input from a GP or another healthcare professional, this will be discussed with you.
Why Choose Home-Based Falls Prevention?
Falls prevention is particularly effective when it addresses the places and activities where difficulties occur. A clinic assessment cannot always show how someone manages their own stairs, furniture, doorways or usual walking routes.
Home-based physiotherapy allows advice and exercises to be directly related to everyday life. It also removes the need to travel to a clinic, making treatment accessible to people who are frail, recently discharged from hospital or less confident leaving home.
Home physiotherapy may be suitable if you or a relative:
- Has experienced one or more falls or near misses
- Feels unsteady when walking
- Has become weaker following illness or a hospital admission
- Is increasingly reliant on furniture or another person for support
- Is worried about falling on the stairs or outside
- Has reduced their usual activities because of fear of falling
- Needs advice about walking aids or safe mobility at home
