Post-hospital stay reconditioning

Rebuild strength & independence after hospital

A hospital admission can lead to a surprising loss of strength, stamina and confidence – particularly for older adults or people who have spent a prolonged period in bed. Everyday activities such as standing from a chair, climbing the stairs or walking outside may feel much harder than before.

Bee Mobile Physiotherapy provides personalised post-hospital reconditioning in your own home. The service supports people returning home after an admission to Epsom Hospital, Kingston Hospital, Molesey Community Hospital or another local hospital.

Home physiotherapy is available across Worcester Park, Epsom & Ewell, Stoneleigh and Cheam, helping you continue your recovery safely after discharge.

Personalised Rehabilitation after Hospital discharge

Post-hospital physiotherapy begins with an assessment of your mobility, strength, balance and current difficulties. Your treatment will then be tailored to your previous level of independence, medical history and personal recovery goals.

Reconditioning physiotherapy may include:

  • Rebuilding strength following illness or inactivity
  • Practising walking safely around the home
  • Improving balance and confidence
  • Practising getting out of bed or standing from a chair
  • Stair assessment and practice
  • Improving stamina through gradually increased activity
  • Advice on walking aids and mobility equipment
  • An individual home exercise programme
  • Support for relatives or carers where appropriate

Rehabilitation is progressed at a manageable pace. Your goals might include moving independently around your home, managing the stairs, walking outdoors or returning to your usual activities.

Post-hospital reconditioning may be helpful following an infection, surgery, a fall, a period of reduced mobility or a prolonged medical admission.

Why Choose Home-Based reconditioning?

The transition from hospital to home can be difficult. Someone who appeared mobile on a hospital ward may struggle with their own stairs, furniture and daily routine once they return home.

Home physiotherapy allows rehabilitation to focus on the activities and challenges that matter in your actual environment. It also avoids the difficulty of travelling to a clinic when you are still weak, tired or lacking confidence.

Home-based reconditioning may be suitable if you or a relative:

  • Has become weaker during a hospital stay
  • Is finding everyday activities more difficult after discharge
  • Feels unsteady or worried about falling
  • Is relying more heavily on a walking aid or another person
  • Has lost confidence walking indoors or outside
  • Needs additional rehabilitation beyond the support already arranged
  • Wants to work towards returning to their previous independence
